Day 1. Tuesday, 28th.
Meet at MOYALIFFE HOUSE, BALLYCAHILL, CO.TIPPERARY at 11am. Morning teas will welcome you to the tour, a tour of the walled garden (under restoration) and grounds of Moyaliffe. Depart at 1pm for FRUITLAWN GARDEN, ABBEYLEIX, CO.LAOIS. This is the home garden of renowned Garden Designer, Arthur Shackleton. The garden was designed around an original stone building and a walled- in garden of about one acre. Today there are several garden rooms with a hornbeam tunnel a special feature. There are beautiful climbing roses growing against the honey-coloured stone. Richly planted perennial borders are alive with colour and are also a magnet for bees and butterflies. We will enjoy a guided tour here and lunch served in the garden. Return to Moyaliffe House for Dinner served in the atmospheric old dining room, with produce from the walled garden featuring. Overnight stay at Moyaliffe House. |

Day 2. Wednesday, 29th.
Proceed to ANNE’S GROVE, MALLOW, CO. CORK. Created by Richard Grove Annesley in the early 20th century, the garden is Robinsonian in style. There is a notable Rhododendron collection, a fernery, river walks and woodland gardens. The garden has undergone extensive renovation in recent times by the OPW. Proceed from here to COOSHEEN, GLAUNTHAUNE, CO.CORK. Owner Hester Forde is a renowned Plantswoman and her garden reflects her vast knowledge of plants and how best to grow them in her garden near Cork city. On a 1/3 of an acre, the garden is packed with interesting planting combinations, a pot collection full of intriguing plant mixes and quite a number of trees, despite the gardens size. Be filled with inspiration following a visit to ‘Coosheen’. After lunch at a local café, we proceed to BALLYMALOE HOUSE AND GARDENS, SHANAGARRY, CO.CORK. This famous cookery school, home to renowned chefs Darina and Rachel Allen, is surrounded by both an organic farm and extensive gardens. We will enjoy a guided tour of the many gardens to include the ornamental fruit garden, kitchen potager, the herb garden, herbaceous borders and shell house to name a few. Afternoon teas are available here as well as a farm shop to browse through. Return to Moyaliffe House for dinner served in the old dining room, featuring produce from the walled garden. Stay overnight at the historic Moyaliffe House. |

Day 3. Thursday, 30th.

Depart Moyaliffe House for
HEYWOOD GARDENS, BALLINAKILL , CO. LAOIS. This remarkable garden consists of 50 acres of woodland, lakes and formal gardens. The outstanding feature is the sunken garden designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and dating from 1912. A pleached allee of limes leads to the Lutyens garden which contains a circular pond with turtle fountains, and two tiers of planting adding colour and fragrance. Depart Heywood Gardens and have lunch in Abbeyleix, a heritage town close by. Depart Abbeyleix and proceed to BALLINTUBBERT, STRADBALLY, CO. LAOIS. The gardens at Ballintubbert are notable for their collection of garden rooms, especially the ‘Lutyens Garden’, the design of which is based on the original designed by Edwin Lutyens at nearby Heywood Gardens. Previous owners include actor John Hurt and poet laureate Cecil Day-Lewis, father of actor Daniel Day-Lewis. We will enjoy a guided tour by head gardener, Jenifer Taggart, and also delicious afternoon teas. Return to Moyaliffe House for the end of the tour.

Historic Moyaliffe House is home to your tour leader, Lorna Vallely.
The landscaped grounds of 12 acres surround the house which dates from 1820, a feature of which are the 200 year old Beech, Oak and Lime trees. The grounds also include a Beech walk, the remains of a 12th century Norman castle on top of a motte and the grand water fountain and pond. Another feature of Moyaliffe is its 2 acre walled garden which is listed on Ireland’s Register of Protected Structures. This is currently undergoing restoration with a newly built glasshouse hoping to emulate the Victorian era. There is an orchard planted within the walled garden and vegetables, herbs and soft fruit growing being carried out. The river Clodagh flows along one side of the garden and there are frequent sightings of swans and herons. Rare sightings of Otters along the river cause great excitement! Your comfortable accommodation within Moyaliffe House assures you of garden or river views, dinner if applicable of locally sourced ingredients, often with produce from the walled garden, and a tasty breakfast. Feel free to wander through the grounds or play a game of tennis on the all weather tennis court. |
